Aperture, iPhoto and Final Cut Pro Updated for Retina Display

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 05:30 PM

"Several of Apple's popular Mac apps received updates today following the WWDC keynote, many of which help the apps take full advantage of the new 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro's display."

Aperture got most of the update love, but they didn't leave out iPhoto or Final Cut Pro so those two programs could also take advantage of the Retina Display on the new Macbook Pros.

Final Cut Pro X Available Today, But Make Sure You Are Compatible!

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 08:30 AM

"Apple just announced its all-new Final Cut Pro X video editing software, which is now available from the Mac App Store today along with Motion 5 and Compressor 4."

Not just an update mind you, but an entire new application that is now 64-bit, available now in the Mac App Store for $299.00 USD [affiliate link]. They also released Motion 5 [affiliate link] and Compressor 4 [affiliate link], two graphics programs that enhance the output of Final Cut Pro X. However it's not all fun and games as some with older Macs are finding out they aren't able to run the new software with their machines. In a post on 9to5 Mac, they outline the problems but basically if you have a 1st Generation Mac Pro, you will need this adapter in order to get it to work. The nice thing is, when you try to buy the program Apple tells you it won't work before you lay down your moolah, something that wouldn't happen if you were buying off the shelf or at the retail store. The adapter cost roughly $149.00 USD but if you don't want to upgrade hardware, that appears to be a small price to pay for the latest and greatest Final Cut Pro version. Upgrading your hardware is an eventuality anyway, but these machines are only two years old so I wouldn't think you should have to upgrade hardware so soon. Then again, as fast as technology moves these days, I guess that is to be expected. What are your thoughts?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 07:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2009/10/23/appl...wo-new-updates/

"Just days after all the hardware updates on Tuesday, Apple has posted two new support downloads. The first, Pro Applications Update 2009-01, contains several updates for applications in Final Cut Studio. This update includes Final Cut Pro 7.0.1, Motion 4.0.1, Soundtrack Pro 3.0.1, Color 1.5.1, and Compressor 3.5.1."

More info is available at the Apple support page. Apple also released a server update, specifically "Apple Server Diagnostics 3X106, which replaces Apple Server Diagnostics 3X104 to provide support for Snow Leopard Server. This is compatiable with the Xserve (Early 2008 or Early 2009) or the Mac mini server config (Early 2009)."

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 09:00 AM

"Now you can easily convert video and transfer to iMovie and Final Cut Pro for editing. Today we've updated iFunia Video Converter Pro for Mac that supported converting any video (including HD video, AVCHD M2TS, MTS, Camcorder MOD, TOD, FLV, etc) to MOV/MPEG-4 (either SD or HD) format which can be recognized by iMovie, Final Cut, Final Cut Express and Final Cut Pro for further editing."

iFunia Video Converter Pro is exclusively designed for the Mac OS platform, it costs US $35 and works on Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. It appears they also have a free trial available on their page so you can take it for a test drive to see if it is something you like.
